artist statement

Reflecting upon the quote by Heraclitus “There is nothing permanent except change" Chloe Dunford uses the medium of tapestry weaving to explore the history of mark making and graffiti. The themes of impermanence and transience are central to her work. Through her woven art, Chloe seeks to capture time stamped moments before the memories, messages and marks of this unstable medium distort, fade or completely disappear.

The creation of graffiti is urgent and emotive, though often considers a low form of art or even vandalism, whilst the art and craft of weaving is slow, considered, yet equally executed with passion. It is this juxtaposition that informs Chloe's work. By adapting and transforming elements of graffiti into tapestry art she looks to create a longer lasting second life of the original statement of expression.
